Valve’s PC game store Steam has shattered its record for concurrent PC players, reaching an unprecedented 38,366,479 users online simultaneously on September 22, 2024.
This milestone surpasses the previous record set just last month by over one million users, a surge largely attributed to the release of the highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong.
The latest peak in user activity was driven by a combination of perennial favorites and recent releases. Steam’s top 10 most-played games featured familiar titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG. Interestingly, the phenomenon known as Banana continues to maintain its popularity without fragmenting its player base.
New entries also contributed significantly to this record-breaking achievement. Black Myth: Wukong, released earlier this year, continues to draw substantial player numbers. Other notable contributors include the full release of Satisfactory 1.0, the launch of Space Marine 2, and Valve’s Deadlock.
The PC gaming landscape received an additional boost with the recent Steam debuts of former PlayStation exclusives God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 16.
Steam continues to solidify its position as the leading digital distribution platform for PC gamers. Despite competitors such as the Epic Games Store and CD Projekt’s GOG, Steam remains the dominant force in the PC gaming market.
The release of the Steam Deck, a handheld gaming device, has further expanded Steam’s reach. This portable device allows users to play Steam games on the go, providing additional convenience and flexibility.
