FBR Announces Bad News for Income Tax Return Filers [Updated]

Update: The Federal Board of Revenue has taken a U-turn and extendedthe deadline.


The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has categorically denied news circulating on social media regarding an extension in filing income tax returns.   

In a statement issued on Monday evening, FBR said that news regarding an extension in the deadline is not correct and urged taxpayers to file returns.

Earlier in the day, the FBR chairman said that currently no decision has been taken to extend the due date and September 30 (today) is the last date to file tax returns for tax year 2024.   

Reportedly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was supposed to take the final decision regarding an extension in the deadline, however, FBR has categorically denied that an extension will be given.
