Power distribution companies (DISCOs) have submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices in the form of quarterly adjustments.
The request covers the first quarter of the current fiscal year and seeks to put an additional burden of Rs. 8.71 billion on consumers.
According to the proposal, Rs. 8.06 billion is requested under capacity charges, while Rs. 1.25 billion is needed for operations and maintenance costs. An additional Rs. 1.65 billion is sought to cover system charges and market operations fees.
NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on November 20 to review the application. If approved, the increased charges will be applied to consumers’ electricity bills across the board.
