The Pakistan Airports Authority has announced a significant update regarding the classification of Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.
In a newly issued notification, the Authority has extended the airport’s E4 Aerodrome Reference Code for three more years, with the renewed classification now valid from 18 September 2024 until 17 September 2027.
The E4 classification plays an essential role in determining the types of aircraft that can operate at Jinnah International Airport. With this extension, the airport remains capable of handling larger commercial aircraft, including the 170-seat Airbus A320 and the 368-seat Boeing 777, as well as other similar large-capacity planes.
This capability is critical for supporting both international and domestic air traffic efficiently, enabling Karachi’s airport to meet global aviation standards.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, such classifications are reviewed every three years in accordance with international civil aviation regulations.
This regular review ensures that major Pakistani airports, including Karachi’s, are well-prepared to handle growing traffic demands while upholding safety and operational standards.
