Pakistan Ranks #1 for Visa Rejections in This Popular Schengen Country

Greece ranks as the sixth most popular Schengen Area country for visa applications in 2023.

Data from SchengenVisaInfo reveals that over 6% of all Schengen visa applications submitted this year were directed to Greece, totaling 627,008 requests, according to SchengenNews.

The majority of these applications came from Turkish citizens (254,377 or 40.5%), followed by Russian applicants (62,959) and Chinese applicants (35,931).

Top 5 Nationalities with Highest Visa Rejection Rates by Greece in 2023

The data also highlights that applicants from certain African and Asian countries experienced the highest rejection rates by Greek authorities.

The nationalities with the highest rejection rates were as follows:

  1. Pakistanis
  2. Algerians
  3. Tunisians
  4. Senegalese
  5. Iraqis

In 2023, Pakistani nationals submitted 560 visa applications, and more than half of these (65.54%) were denied, marking them as the group most affected by rejections.

Algerian nationals ranked second, with a rejection rate of 59.54%, equating to 1,230 out of 2,066 applications denied.

For Tunisian applicants, the rejection rate was 56.36%, with 1,564 out of their total applications being denied.

Senegalese applicants filed fewer applications, totaling 240 in 2023, yet faced a high rejection rate at 56.25%, meaning 135 of their applications were denied.

Iraqi nationals submitted 3,568 applications, and Greek authorities rejected 1,756 of these, resulting in a rejection rate of 49.22%.
