Microsoft Warns of Critical Bug in Windows 11 Installer Media

Microsoft has issued a warning about a bug affecting manually created Windows 11 installer media.

USB or CD media including the October 2024 or November 2024 patches may prevent new installations from receiving future security updates. According to Microsoft’s known issues page, devices installed with affected media may remain permanently unable to accept future updates. However, systems updated via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are not impacted.

Microsoft’s Solution

To address the issue, Microsoft advises recreating installation media with the December 2024 patch released on December 10, 2024. For those who have already installed Windows using flawed media, reinstalling the operating system with corrected files is the only solution. To prevent the issue, ensure that the installation media for Windows 11 version 24H2 includes the latest updates.

Bleeping Computer has reported several significant bugs in Windows 11 version 24H2, including serious audio issues, outdated Google Workspace Sync problems, and compatibility hurdles with Ubisoft games. Although developers are implementing fixes, these persistent issues seriously cast doubt on the stability of version 24H2.

Stay Updated

Microsoft’s advisory emphasizes the urgent need for users to keep their installation tools and operating systems up to date. To protect against potential vulnerabilities and boost overall system performance, users should take action and utilize official update mechanisms, such as Windows Update, without delay.
