Sindh Police have announced a strict new policy starting January 1, 2025, where vehicles driven without a valid license will be impounded. Traffic violators will face strict actions without any exceptions, according to Express News.
The decision was made during a meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by IG Sindh, and Ghulam Nabi Memon. The focus of the meeting was to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws across the province.
An ongoing awareness campaign about obtaining driving licenses will continue, but stricter measures against unlicensed drivers will take effect at the beginning of the year. The DIG Traffic highlighted several challenges, including illegal encroachments, poor parking management, traffic violations, and inadequate traffic infrastructure.
To address these issues, an awareness campaign was launched on December 20. Camps were set up at 35 public locations, and over 2,000 banners were placed on roads, public transport, and other areas. This effort has led to a 25-30% rise in license applications.
IG Sindh has instructed traffic police to take immediate action against unlicensed drivers by impounding their vehicles. However, he stressed that general road checks should be avoided. Instead, traffic police should observe rule violations, politely greet drivers, and request their licenses. Licensed drivers found violating rules will be fined, while unlicensed drivers will have their vehicles seized.
The IG further highlighted the importance of thorough investigations into traffic accidents to address their root causes. He directed officers to monitor traffic flow and incidents daily and ensure regular training for traffic personnel to improve overall efficiency.
