PMD Reveals Dates for 2025 Lunar and Solar Eclipses

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that 2025 will feature two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses, though not all will be visible in Pakistan.

Lunar Eclipses

A lunar eclipse is when the Earth moves directly between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow on the moon. The first lunar eclipse is scheduled for March 14, starting at 8:57 a.m. However, it won’t be visible from Pakistan due to its timing.

The second lunar eclipse will occur between September 7 and 8, from 8:28 p.m. to 1:55 a.m. Unlike the first, this eclipse will be visible in Pakistan, along with parts of Asia, Europe, and Africa. Often, lunar eclipses take on a reddish hue, popularly called a “blood moon,” due to sunlight scattering through Earth’s atmosphere.

Solar Eclipses

Solar eclipses happen when the moon moves between the Earth and the sun, partially or completely blocking sunlight.

The first solar eclipse is set for March 29 but will not be visible in Pakistan. Similarly, the second solar eclipse on September 22, beginning at 11:30 p.m., won’t be observable from the region either.
