Sindh Minister Assures No Govt Delays in Red Line BRT Project

The Red Line BRT project in Karachi, designed to provide a modern mass transit system, has faced delays and challenges, but Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has assured that the government is not responsible for any setbacks. The minister emphasized that the Sindh government has been working tirelessly to address the issues and ensure the timely completion of the project.

During a recent press conference, Sharjeel Memon highlighted that no progress was made on the Red Line BRT during the nine-month tenure of the caretaker government due to negligence on the part of some officers. Once the project resumed, additional complications arose, including the misinterpretation of previous cabinet decisions, leading to delays. However, the Sindh government immediately took emergency measures to restart the project and overcome these hurdles.

One of the significant challenges has been the relocation of utilities, including a 96-inch K-4 water pipeline that runs through the middle of the BRT corridor. The Sindh government has pledged to allocate funds for transferring K-Electric poles and other utilities to prevent further delays. Additionally, concerns from showroom owners near Jamsheed Chowrangi, who fear the project might impact their business, have also been addressed. However, Minister Memon made it clear that the design of the project cannot be altered to accommodate individual requests, as the World Bank, which funds the project, has approved the existing plans.

To expedite progress, the Sindh government has instructed construction teams to work in three shifts and has committed to removing any obstacles hindering the project. Minister Memon stressed the importance of completing the Red Line BRT ahead of schedule, as it promises to revolutionize Karachi’s public transportation system. He reassured critics that the government is utilizing all available resources and welcomed international audits to ensure transparency in the project’s execution.

The minister reiterated that the project aims to ease travel for passengers and reduce traffic congestion in Karachi. He acknowledged that challenges remain but expressed confidence in the Sindh government’s ability to deliver a modern, efficient mass transit system for the city. Minister Memon emphasized that the delays are a result of past mismanagement and external obstacles, not any lack of effort from the Sindh government or the transport department.

The Red Line BRT project represents a significant step towards modernizing Karachi’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents. With the Sindh government’s focused efforts and commitment, the project is expected to transform the city’s public transportation landscape.
