Honda Unveils New EV Concepts at CES 2025

Honda is making significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing its 0-series prototypes at CES 2025. Building on the concepts revealed in previous years, the Honda 0 Saloon and 0 SUV have taken a step closer to production, embodying sleek designs, advanced technology, and innovative features that set the stage for the company’s EV future.

The Honda 0 Saloon and 0 SUV, showcased as prototypes, represent Honda’s vision of its upcoming electric lineup. Both vehicles are set to debut in North America in 2026. The 0 SUV, the first to enter production, will be manufactured at Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio and hit U.S. roads in the first half of 2026. The Saloon will follow in late 2026 and be produced at the Ohio facility.

The 0 SUV embraces a bold and modern design, with a raked windshield, low roofline, and a distinctive two-tone look featuring a black roof. Its pixelated headlights, illuminated Honda logo, and U-shaped taillight design provide a futuristic appearance. The 0 Saloon, on the other hand, features a low-slung wedge shape and cab-forward design, closely resembling the concept revealed in 2024. Though some production elements may evolve, both vehicles incorporate cameras instead of traditional side mirrors and interiors dominated by digital displays.

Underneath the striking exteriors lies an array of advanced technologies. Honda’s 0-series vehicles will debut the company’s Level 3 autonomous driving system, allowing for “eyes-off” operation in certain conditions, such as heavy traffic or highways. This system, powered by artificial intelligence and developed in partnership with Helm.ai, aims to gradually expand its capabilities through over-the-air updates. The vehicles will also feature steer-by-wire technology, offering greater precision and responsiveness.

Honda’s new Asimo OS, inspired by the iconic humanoid robot first unveiled in 2000, will manage the cars’ electronic control units (ECUs), active safety systems, and infotainment features. Developed in collaboration with semiconductor manufacturer Renesas, the system integrates multiple vehicle functions into a single ECU, improving efficiency while reducing power consumption.

Both the Saloon and SUV will offer impressive performance features, including a 300-mile range, lightweight lithium-ion batteries, and active aerodynamics to improve efficiency. Additionally, Honda is investing in a robust charging network through its joint venture, IONNA, aiming for 30,000 charging stations by 2030. The vehicles will include NACS-style charge ports and intelligent charging capabilities, such as optimizing charging times to coincide with low electricity costs and feeding excess energy back to the grid.

Honda’s “Thin, Light, and Wise” development philosophy underpins the 0-series design. The vehicles are engineered to be lightweight, with batteries that are 6% thinner and an overall weight reduction of approximately 100 kilograms compared to current EV models.

The 0-series marks a bold step for Honda in the highly competitive EV market. With plans to expand the lineup to include additional models by 2030, Honda aims to solidify its position as a leader in next-generation mobility.
