Weather Department Predicts Rain and Snowfall

Met office predicted that a westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on 18th January.

Under the influence of this weather system:

Moderate rain-windstorm (snowfall over hills) is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagi, Noushki, Kalat, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Kharan, Kech, Panjgur and Gwadar from 18th to 20th January with occasional gaps.

Moderate rain-windstorm (snowfall over hills) is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Manshera, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Karak and Kohat, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 18th to 21st January with occasional gaps.

Light rain-windstorm is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal on 18th (evening/night) & 19th January.

Possible Impacts and advice:
  • Moderate rain may cause flash flooding in Chagi, Noushki, Kharan, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah and Quetta on 18th (night)/19th (morning).
  • Moderate to few heavy snowfall may cause road closure/slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Manshera, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah and Qilla Saifullah during forecast period.
  • Possibility of the landslides/avalanche in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period.
  • Tourists and travelers visiting mountainous areas are advised to remain cautious during the period.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast period.

Note: All concerned authorities are advised to remain “ALERT” and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation particularly in hilly areas of the country.
