CM Punjab Launches Electric Bus Service in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially introduced an electric bus service in Lahore on Friday.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed her on the pilot project during the launch. Each bus has GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, and designated seating for differently-abled passengers.

The floors have an anti-slip sheet for passenger safety and the buses have a seating capacity of 30, accommodating up to 80 passengers at a time.

Nine dedicated charging stations have been set up at the Green Town Hamdard Chowk depot. Each bus can travel 250 kilometers on a single charge, completing up to four full routes before recharging.

Security measures include CCTV cameras to prevent harassment incidents. 27 electric buses will operate on a 21-kilometer route from the railway station to Green Town, passing through Queens Road, Mozang, Ferozepur Road, and PU Campus Bridge.

The full-scale launch is expected by mid-February, with 42 bus shelters under construction. Buses will arrive every nine minutes, and fares can be paid via digital wallets, cards, and universal transport cards. A mobile app for real-time bus tracking will also be introduced.
