The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department is set to import 12 giraffes, with three allocated for Lahore Zoo and the remaining nine for the Safari Zoo.
According to Deputy Director (Publicity) Mudassar Hassan, the giraffes are being imported from South Africa for Rs140 million and are expected to arrive this month.
He mentioned that while Lahore Zoo previously imported three giraffes in 2018, only one survived, as two passed away. Meanwhile, the Safari Zoo will be receiving giraffes for the first time.
The final arrival route is yet to be determined. If the giraffes land in Karachi, they will have to endure an additional 18-hour road journey to Lahore, which could be stressful for the animals.
