Spotify’s Long-Awaited HiFi Tier is Finally Coming with a Different Name

Four years have passed since Spotify first announced its HiFi streaming option in February 2021, yet the feature remains absent. However, a new Bloomberg report suggests that a full rollout could finally happen before the end of 2025.

Alongside higher-quality audio, the subscription will reportedly be rebranded as Spotify Music Pro and cost an additional $6 per month, on top of the existing $12 Premium plan.

What to Expect from Spotify Music Pro

The 50% price increase would likely translate to an extra £6 in the UK and AU$7 in Australia. But Spotify is bundling more than lossless audio into the plan. According to Bloomberg, subscribers will also gain access to remixing tools, potentially powered by AI-driven features, along with discounts on concert tickets.

Spotify’s executives reportedly believe dedicated music fans are willing to pay extra for premium features.

Why the Delayed Launch?

Spotify’s indecisiveness over what the HiFi tier should offer—and at what price—has led to years of delays. Since 2021, leaks have suggested multiple branding possibilities, including Spotify Supremium. Last year, Music Pro appeared hidden in the Spotify app code, hinting at playlist-filtering features as part of the package.

While the streaming platform is still exploring different options, it seems the rollout will happen in phases rather than as a single global launch. Some features may debut first, with others arriving over time.

How It Compares to Rivals

Spotify’s approach contrasts with Apple Music and Amazon Music, which both already offer lossless audio at no extra cost. This pricing strategy could be a gamble for the platform, but it might pay off if additional perks—such as AI-powered tools and ticket discounts—make Music Pro a more compelling offer.

When Will It Launch?

Though no official launch date has been announced, Spotify has promised to “double down” on music in 2025. If Music Pro is indeed part of that plan, we could finally see Spotify HiFi become a reality before the year’s end.
