Peshawar BRT is Getting Dozens of Buses to Meet Growing Demand

To meet the growing transportation needs of Peshawar, the government has decided to expand the BRT service to new areas.

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, it was decided that BRT buses will now operate on Ring Road, Bara Road, and Khyber Road. To support this expansion, 72 new diesel-hybrid buses will be purchased.

A six-month deadline has been set for the necessary civil works before launching these buses on the new routes. The progress of under-construction BRT plazas was also reviewed. Officials informed that the Mall of Hayatabad and Dubgari Plaza are expected to be completed by the end of April.

Several key decisions were also made to improve traffic flow in the city. The missing link of Ring Road will now be completed with full funding to ensure speedy construction. Moreover, the government has decided to build underpasses at various points in the city to ease congestion. Seven underpasses will be constructed on Ring Road and University Road.

Authorities have been directed to finish feasibility studies for the underpasses within two months. Another plan has been initiated to construct underpasses in densely populated areas. Additionally, obstacles causing traffic problems on University Road will be removed within a month.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said during the meeting that the government is committed to Peshawar’s development and providing modern transport facilities. He emphasized that financial constraints will not delay progress and that the BRT service will be further improved to meet public needs.

The meeting also discussed expanding BRT-style services to other divisional headquarters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. To begin this process, feasibility studies will be conducted in Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan.
