University of Health Sciences is Shifting Campuses to Solar Power to Cut Costs

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has decided to transition both campuses to solar energy to reduce electricity expenses.

The decision was made during the 58th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) on Tuesday, led by Justice (Retd) Sheikh Ahmad Farooq.

The solar energy project, estimated at Rs. 75 million, aims to help the university save Rs. 55 million annually on electricity costs. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has allocated Rs. 20 million in funding to support the initiative.

During the meeting, UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore presented the university’s annual performance report. He outlined key reforms introduced over the past year, emphasizing improvements in examination processes and admissions.

The vice-chancellor also highlighted the transparent organization of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) and the implementation of a merit-based admissions system for both public and private medical colleges.
