The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority launched a major crackdown on food adulteration on Wednesday, seizing 25,000 kilograms of substandard and hazardous pickles from a manufacturing unit in Hayatabad’s Industrial Zone, Peshawar.
According to a Food Authority spokesperson, the operation was led by Director of Operations Akhtar Nawaz in coordination with the district administration. During the raid, authorities found extremely poor hygiene conditions and unsafe production practices at the facility. The entire stock of contaminated pickles was destroyed on-site, and the factory was immediately sealed. Legal proceedings under the Food Safety Act have also been initiated against the owners.
Director General of the Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, praised the operation, stressing a zero-tolerance policy against those jeopardizing public health. “No one will be allowed to endanger human lives by selling substandard food products,” he affirmed.
KP Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to eradicating food adulteration. “Those involved in food contamination, acting as enemies of the people, will be eliminated,” he declared, instructing officials to intensify actions against those selling unsafe food.
