KP to Compensate Families of Deceased Health Card Patients

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to provide compensation to the families of patients who pass away during treatment under the Sehat Card program.

A formal agreement has been signed between the KP government and State Life Insurance. According to the Health Department, if a patient under 60 years of age dies in the hospital, their family will receive Rs 1 million. For patients over 60 years of age, the compensation will be Rs 500,000.

The Health Department also clarified that liver transplants, bone marrow transplants, and thalassemia treatment are currently not covered under the Sehat Card. A proposal regarding their inclusion has been submitted to the provincial cabinet for approval.

In the first phase, treatment will be prioritized for underprivileged patients. Bone marrow and liver transplant procedures will be conducted at Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, while kidney transplants will take place at the Institute of Kidney Diseases. Thalassemia patients will receive treatment at the Hayatabad Medical Complex.
