Lahore Zoo Battles Deadly Infection as Multiple Rare Animals Die

A rare Jamesbook deer at Lahore Zoo has died due to a respiratory infection, adding to a series of recent animal losses at the facility.

According to a spokesperson from the Punjab Wildlife Department, the deer fell ill during the severe cold wave in February and struggled with breathing issues. Despite treatment efforts, the animal did not survive.

Lahore Zoo had recently imported these rare deer, but they have faced multiple health issues. Two infant deer died shortly after birth, while another animal lost its eyesight following a fight with a Sindh ibex.

Additionally, a pregnant deer lost its unborn fawn during surgery.

Veterinary teams are currently investigating the causes of these deaths, and another Jamesbook deer remains under treatment. Officials have assured that efforts are being made to improve the care and health monitoring of zoo animals.
