In a major step toward standardizing education and refining assessment methods, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced that board examinations for Class 8 students will be introduced from the next academic year.
This shift moves away from the previous system, where exams were conducted within individual schools. The new framework aims to establish consistency and transparency in student evaluations across the province.
Under the updated system, Class 8 students will sit for their exams at designated centers rather than their own schools. External invigilators—including teachers from other institutions and PSEB officials—will oversee the process to ensure fairness. Additionally, answer sheets will be assessed by various school educators to eliminate grading bias.
This initiative aligns with PSEB’s broader efforts to enhance education quality and better prepare students for higher-level board exams. By introducing standardized board exams at an earlier stage, students will gain valuable experience, helping them understand their academic performance more effectively and build a solid foundation for future assessments.
Meanwhile, the annual matriculation exams for grades 9 and 10 are currently underway across Punjab’s nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs). Exams for 12th-grade students will begin on April 29, followed by 11th-grade exams starting May 20.
To maintain the integrity of the examination process, PSEB has enforced strict security protocols. These include installing CCTV cameras at all exam centers, implementing Section 144 to prevent unauthorized gatherings, and strictly prohibiting mobile phones and other restricted materials within exam premises. Additionally, law enforcement agencies are actively involved in securing the transportation of exam papers and monitoring centers to prevent malpractice.
