Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the latest addition to its premium mobile chipset lineup. Internally known as the SM8735, the chip is built on TSMC’s 4nm N4P process. Unlike the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, it continues to use the Kryo CPU rather than the newer Oryon cores.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 features a CPU setup consisting of one Cortex-X4 core at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz, and two additional Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz. Qualcomm claims the chip delivers 31% better performance than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 while using 39% less power.
The new Adreno 825 GPU is said to provide a 49% improvement in graphics performance over its predecessor. It also supports on-device ray tracing and includes Snapdragon Elite Gaming technologies such as Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0.
The Hexagon NPU on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 delivers a 44% boost in AI performance. For imaging, the chipset integrates an 18-bit triple ISP capable of handling up to 320MP camera sensors and 4K HDR video at 60fps.
The chipset features an integrated Snapdragon X75 modem, offering peak 5G download speeds of up to 4.2Gbps, though it supports only sub-6GHz frequencies. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and Qualcomm’s XPAN technology, which uses Wi-Fi to transmit audio wirelessly. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2.
The iQOO Z10 Turbo will debut the chip later this month, and brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Meizu will feature the new chipset in additional devices in the coming months.
