Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the immediate registration of workers employed in shops, workshops, and small-scale enterprises across the province.
In a meeting with Punjab Labour Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, the Chief Minister instructed that the registration process be launched without delay. She emphasized that once registered with the labour department, workers in small enterprises would become eligible for financial assistance and other support programs.
CM Maryam also ordered the strict enforcement of the minimum wage across shops, petrol stations, and factories throughout Punjab. She called for a crackdown on businesses failing to comply with the mandated wage laws and emphasized the need to expand labour registration efforts across the province.
“For the first time in Punjab, workers in shops, workshops, and small industrial units will be formally registered,” she stated, adding that working conditions in industrial facilities must be improved as part of a broader labour welfare strategy.
Additionally, she instructed relevant departments to prepare a comprehensive plan for launching a ration card programme for labourers.
