Pakistani City Ranked Safer Than London, New York, and Paris

Lahore has made global headlines by securing a spot among the world’s safest major cities in the 2025 Numbeo Crime and Safety Index, surpassing 249 international urban centres. The city ranked 37th for low crime and 63rd in overall safety.

This puts Lahore ahead of global capitals like London, New York, Paris, New Delhi, and Washington DC — a significant shift in perception for a South Asian metropolis.

According to Numbeo, Lahore recorded a Crime Index of 37 and a Safety Index of 63, showing a sharp improvement driven by crime reduction strategies. From April 2023 to April 2024, the city witnessed a 50% drop in reported crimes — from over 67,000 cases to 34,091. Robbery, homicide, and vehicle theft saw major declines.

The police credited this transformation to data-driven policing, targeted deployment, strict accountability, and politically neutral operations. Over 400 officers faced disciplinary action, and key leadership positions were awarded based on merit.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said their goal is to make Lahore the safest city in the world.

The recognition by Numbeo — based on citizen input — boosts Lahore’s reputation for investors, tourists, and residents alike, offering a new model of urban safety for developing nations.
