Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (Retired) Hafeez ur Rehman, has expressed regret over a recent misunderstanding during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas.

Addressing the incident, the Chairman clarified that he had no intention of being disrespectful or using unparliamentary language. He explained that upon the return of a respected senator, a light exchange of words took place in a casual tone. However, if it unintentionally caused offense, he had already offered an apology before the committee.

He further emphasized that he holds Senator Aimal Wali Khan and his esteemed family in the highest regard. “I have deep respect for all members of the Senate and remain committed to upholding the decorum of Parliament,” the Chairman said, adding that his conduct always aligns with institutional norms and professional responsibilities.

Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman reiterated that his intention throughout the session was to engage with the committee with due respect and transparency. He noted that any misunderstanding should be viewed in the context of a long-standing record of institutional integrity and professionalism that PTA has maintained under his leadership.

He also addressed the ongoing criticism on social media and political platforms, terming it the result of a misperception rather than any factual misconduct. He called for a mature and constructive approach going forward, focusing on national interest rather than personal attacks or miscommunication.

Concluding his statement, the PTA Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country within the framework of law and parliamentary principles.
