Punjab Issues New Directives for Schools Amid Heatwave

In light of the ongoing heatwave, the Punjab government has issued important directives for both public and private schools, including a relaxation in the student dress code.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to remain on high alert due to extreme temperatures and has urged the public to take all necessary precautions. She advised parents to keep children indoors to avoid heat-related health risks.

As part of the new measures, the Chief Minister has ordered the immediate suspension of all outdoor activities in schools. She further instructed that each classroom must have at least one functioning fan to ensure a basic level of comfort for students.

Recognizing the severity of the heat, Maryam Nawaz also announced flexibility in school dress codes, allowing students to wear lighter and more comfortable clothing. Additionally, she emphasized the need for every school to have a first aid kit readily available on campus.

For public spaces such as crowded markets and transportation hubs, the Chief Minister directed that shaded areas, cool drinking water, and first aid services be made accessible to the public.

She also placed Rescue 1122 and health services on high alert, instructing them to ensure the availability of fans, shade, and drinking water at bus and van stands. Farmers, particularly in Multan and Bahawalpur, were advised to take extra precautions while working under extreme heat conditions.

Furthermore, she called for proper arrangements of shade and ample water for livestock on farms and encouraged citizens to place water for birds on rooftops to help them survive the harsh weather.
