Govt Working on Very Cheap Electricity Package for Crypto Miners, Data Centers, Farmers

The Power Division is formulating a “Surplus Power Package” aimed at supporting industrial and agricultural consumers, even crypto mining operations and AI data centers.

The initiative was shared in writing with the Senate Standing Committee on Power during its meeting on May 23, 2025, chaired by Senator Mohsin Aziz.

However, a detailed discussion was deferred due to the absence of Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari and senior officials from PPMC and CPPA-G, who were attending a scheduled meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the Power Division, the proposed package is intended to be subsidy-neutral. It would offer an incentivized rate of 8–9 cents per unit for additional electricity consumed by targeted users.

Greenfield industries such as crypto mining and data centers are expected to benefit from the concessional rates on their entire power consumption, subject to specific terms and conditions being finalized. The package is planned with a clear outlook spanning the next three years.
