NEPRA Approves 2 New Solar Projects for Cheap Electricity

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved two solar power projects in Sindh with a total capacity of 270 megawatts.

A 120MW plant will be established in Deh Halkani and a 150MW facility in Deh Methagar.

Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said these projects will increase solar power supply and help reduce load-shedding in Karachi, while also making electricity cheaper.

Separately, the Sindh government is distributing free solar panels to low-income households to ease the burden of electricity bills. Under this initiative, each household will receive a solar system comprising a panel, fan, three bulbs, battery backup, and a mobile charger.

The program is part of the Sindh Solar Energy Project and would help support 200,000 households. It is also linked to smaller efforts by the provincial government to expand renewable energy and improve access to basic services.
