The Punjab Education Department has approved a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for school heads, raising it from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000. This revision reflects a 1,900% hike.
Alongside the allowance increase, the department is introducing a merit-based selection process. Teachers aspiring to head positions will be required to pass a written test followed by an interview. Both senior and junior teachers will be eligible to apply under the revised framework.
The revised policy introduces a tiered allowance structure:
Primary and Middle School Heads will receive Rs 7,500 per month.
High and Higher Secondary School Heads will receive Rs 10,000 per month.
This financial revision aims to provide differentiated incentives based on school category and management responsibilities.
According to officials, the written examination is expected to be conducted in July or August 2025, with interviews scheduled to take place before the start of the summer vacation. Successful candidates from both stages will be appointed as school heads.
