A new initiative has been finalized to issue over 116,000 new gas connections across Pakistan during the upcoming fiscal year, despite the country’s ongoing natural gas shortage.
According to budget documents, the government aims to provide 115,530 new domestic gas connections in the next fiscal year. Additionally, the plan sets targets to extend connections to 550 new commercial users and 350 industrial consumers.
The budget outlines that 85,740 of these new connections will be provided in Sindh and Balochistan, while 30,530 connections are designated for Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Under the distribution plan, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is expected to deliver 30,530 new connections within its network areas, while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is tasked with adding 85,740 new connections to its system.
The revised target for the current fiscal year was significantly lower, with only 20,061 new connections planned, highlighting a major increase in next year’s ambitions. This move reflects the government’s intent to expand access to gas services despite supply constraints, especially in underserved regions.
