International Steels Limited (ISL), Pakistan’s leading flat steel producer, has successfully completed its 6.4 megawatt (MW) solar power project, reinforcing its commitment to long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.
Launched in 2024 and executed within 12 months, the initiative now supplies clean, renewable electricity to ISL’s production facilities and corporate offices. The solar installation is expected to generate over 8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually—significantly reducing the company’s dependence on fossil fuels and contributing to its broader climate goals.
“This project reflects our approach to responsible business,” said Samir M. Chinoy, CEO of ISL. “It aligns with our long-term vision of embedding sustainability into our operations while creating shared value for stakeholders and the wider community.”
The estimated annual generation of 8 million kWh is enough to meet a significant portion of ISL’s operational power needs. This transition is equivalent to powering over 3,000 average Pakistani households per year, helping reduce fossil fuel usage and enhance energy reliability.
By shifting a substantial part of its energy mix to solar, ISL is projected to cut thousands of metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually. This reduction not only supports Pakistan’s national climate objectives but also provides greater insulation from fuel price fluctuations and grid instability.
The project directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including:
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Goal 13: Climate Action
The solar initiative forms a key part of ISL’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. By adopting clean energy technologies, ISL is enhancing its operational resilience and demonstrating that industrial growth can be both economically viable and environmentally responsible.
This milestone marks a step forward not only for ISL but also for Pakistan’s industrial sector — showcasing how innovation and sustainability can drive long-term progress.
