Pakistan’s Large-Scale Manufacturing Contracts 1.2% in Eleven Months

The Overall Large-Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector has shown a negative growth of 1.21 percent during the eleven months (July-May) of fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25) when compared with the same period of last year, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The LSMI output increased by 2.29 percent for May 2025 when compared with May 2024 and increased by 7.39 percent when compared with April 2025.

The provisional quantum indices of Large-Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) for May 2025 with base year 2015-16 have been developed on the basis of latest data supplied by the source agencies i.e. OCAC, Ministry of Industries and Production, Ministry of Commerce and Provincial Bureau of Statistics (BoS).

According to the provisional quantum index numbers of the large-scale manufacturing industries, the LSMI quantum index number (QIM) estimated for May 2025 is 116.58. QIM estimated for July-May FY25 is 114.92.

The main contributors towards overall growth of -1.21% are Tobacco (0.12), Textile (0.46) Garments (0.80), Petroleum Products (0.33), Pharmaceuticals (0.16), Automobiles (0.78), Other transport Equipment (0.15), Food (-0.41), Chemicals (-0.33) Non-Metallic Mineral Products (-0.51), Cement (-0.25), Iron & Steel Products (-0.43), Electrical Equipment (-0.38), Machinery and Equipment (-0.18) and Furniture (-1.69).

The production in July-May 2024-25 as compared to July-May 2023-24 has increased in Tobacco, Textile, wearing apparel, Coke & Petroleum Products, Automobiles and Other Transport Equipment while it decreased in Food, Chemical Products, Non-Metallic Mineral Products, Iron & Steel Products, Electrical Equipment, Machinery and Equipment, and Furniture.
