Key Fixes in the Update

Notable changes include a fix for broken image uploads from Mac screenshots and the removal of the outdated novalidate attribute from comment forms, which was initially introduced in 2013. Developers working with Gutenberg will benefit from a new development mode for block editor styles, enabling instant style updates without clearing the browser cache.

End of Support for Older Versions

Alongside the update, WordPress officially ended security support for versions 4.1 through 4.6. These branches received their final updates and will no longer get any future security patches. WordPress cited usage statistics showing that only 0.9% of sites still run on those older versions.

According to a statement on the official release page:

Branches 4.1 to 4.6 had their final release today. These branches won’t receive any security update anymore.

The WordPress Security Team emphasized that this move affects a very small fraction of users, as over 99% of WordPress installations are already running more recent versions.
