The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were once again jolted by an earthquake in the early hours of August 3.
According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the earthquake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale with the epicenter 15 kilometers east-southeast of Rawat, near Rawalpindi at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The earthquake that hit at around 12:10 am was the second quake in less than 24 hours. An earthquake also stuck the twin cities, and other cities in Pakistan last night.
According to NDMA, the earthquake originated near the Rawat Fault, which is an active fault in the Pothohar Plateau. This region lies in an active zone, influenced by the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian plates.
Shallow earthquakes like this can cause tremors across a wide area near the epicenter, it added.
