NDMA Warns Tourists Against Visiting Northern Areas

Following the Prime Minister’s instructions, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory to limit tourism in mountainous regions due to the ongoing monsoon season.

Public transport in high-risk areas should be restricted, and if necessary, Section 144 may be enforced to ensure safety. Law enforcement agencies in tourist hotspots have been directed to implement these measures, while the public is strongly advised to avoid traveling to affected areas.

The advisory aligns with the Met Office’s forecast of strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, intensified by a low-pressure system and a westerly wave.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecasted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including areas such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar, from August 17 to 19.

Torrential rains may lead to flash floods in local streams and nullahs across Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, and other regions, posing significant risks to residents and travelers.
