Lahore Traffic Police Announces Strict Requirement for Issuing Licenses

The Lahore Traffic Police have introduced stricter measures to improve transparency in the issuance of driving licenses. DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir announced that cameras at all driving license testing centers will remain operational at all times and cannot be turned off.

Lifetime Video Recordings

Under the new policy, no driving license will be issued without video evidence of the test. Previously, test recordings were backed up for only 15 days, making it difficult to act on complaints and irregularities. Now, video backups from all centers will be stored permanently and secured with the Safe City Authority’s data center.

Preventing Irregularities

DIG Waqas Nazir said the updated system will eliminate the practice of issuing licenses to untrained or recommended applicants. Cameras and vehicle sensors will automatically detect errors during driving tests, ensuring that only qualified candidates are granted licenses.

Background

The decision follows recurring complaints about loopholes and flaws in the testing process. Officials believe that permanent video storage will provide a transparent mechanism for monitoring, auditing, and taking corrective action where necessary.
