Dubai Airport Installs Over 520 Hearing Loops

520 hearing loops have been installed across Dubai International Airport (DXB), in what is now the world’s largest rollout of the technology. The initiative is aimed at improving accessibility for passengers with hearing loss, including those using hearing aids or cochlear implants, and is part of DXB’s drive to become the most inclusive airport globally.

The Hearing Loops have been placed at high-traffic points such as check-in counters, immigration desks, boarding gates, and information points across all three terminals. The system enables users to connect instantly by switching their hearing devices to the telecoil (T) mode, without the need for extra equipment or manual pairing.

The project was delivered in partnership with members of the oneDXB community, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, Dubai Customs, GDRFA, dnata, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Duty Free, and Dubai Taxi Company.

The rollout was carried out in line with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, which requires public facilities and transport infrastructure to be fully inclusive. Airport employees have also been given specialised training to assist travellers with hearing difficulties.

Globally, more than 1.5 billion people live with some form of hearing loss, a figure the World Health Organisation expects to increase to 2.5 billion by 2050. Recognising this, Dubai Airports has made accessibility a central part of its strategy, combining infrastructure improvements with staff training.

Through initiatives like the Hearing Loops, DXB aims to provide practical, guest-focused solutions that ensure travellers of determination feel supported throughout their journey—from arrival at the kerbside to departure at the gate.
