Direct Flights Between Pakistan and Bangladesh Likely to Restart

Pakistan is considering the resumption of direct flights to Dhaka as relations with Bangladesh show signs of improvement, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) said on Sunday.

The announcement followed a meeting between Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Iqbal Hussain Khan and PIA officials at the airline’s head office in Karachi.

“Matters of mutual interests were discussed, including the resumption of PIA flights to Dhaka to re-establish the air link and strengthen the bond between the two nations,” the airline said on its official X account.

The development comes after recent high-level contacts between the two countries. Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met Bangladesh’s Home Secretary Naseem-ul-Ghani in Karachi, where both sides underlined the need for direct air and shipping links to enhance trade and people-to-people contacts.

According to the Sindh government, the Bangladeshi official requested help in reviving a private direct shipping service that had recently been discontinued.

At the international level, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also held talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Both leaders stressed the importance of constructive and forward-looking relations based on mutual respect.
