Punjab Police Imposes Rs. 26 Million in Traffic Fines in 24 Hours

The Punjab Police reported on Tuesday that it had taken sweeping action to enforce traffic laws across the province, issuing thousands of new driving licenses and collecting millions in fines within just 24 hours.

According to a police spokesperson, 34,342 driving licenses were issued in a single day as part of efforts to encourage citizens to adopt lawful driving practices. At the same time, traffic police officers issued 37,789 challans (tickets) for various traffic violations, resulting in the collection of Rs. 26 million in fines.

The spokesperson added that enforcement teams also targeted polluting vehicles. A total of 703 smoke-emitting vehicles were fined, and several of them were impounded at 19 different police stations.

Inspector General of Punjab Police directed officials to continue strict action against traffic violators, stressing that road safety and compliance with traffic regulations remain top priorities. He also highlighted that 127 driving training schools are currently operating under the Punjab Police to provide citizens with formal driving education.

The IGP further instructed that effective and coordinated steps be taken to recover fines from defaulters, ensuring the complete enforcement of traffic laws across the province.
