The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to sharply increase the base prices of attractive registration numbers, City42 reported on Wednesday, citing official sources.
According to the report, the base price of 64 attractive numbers will be raised tenfold. In the upcoming e-auction, the popular “1” and “786” registration numbers will now start at Rs. 100,000, compared to the earlier Rs. 10,000.
Similarly, the base price of double-digit numbers will rise from Rs5,000 to Rs50,000, while triple-digit numbers will increase from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 25,000. Officials further disclosed that for the “999” series, buyers will be required to pay an additional Rs. 10,000.
After the implementation of the new system, attractive numbers will be issued at the time of vehicle registration and transfer. The department noted that under the revised process, three car series and one motorcycle series will be issued daily.
Director General of Excise has already forwarded a summary to the Punjab government for approval. Once the summary is cleared, the revised prices will take immediate effect.
