Lahore Canal Floating Restaurant Project Cost Rises

The estimated cost of the much-publicized Lahore Canal Floating Restaurant project has significantly increased, jumping from the original Rs. 350 million to Rs. 540 million.

According to officials, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) submitted the revised plan to the Housing Department, which has now received formal approval from the Housing Secretary. The project, initially cleared by the Punjab Chief Minister in August, will be fully funded by the provincial government.

As per the plan, the floating restaurant will circle a one-kilometer stretch of the canal, offering visitors an additional picnic area alongside the dining facility. PHA had already completed its internal approvals and was awaiting the final nod from the Housing Department.

Interestingly, while the Housing Secretary typically has the mandate to sanction projects worth up to Rs. 80 million, this particular project received special approval due to its flagship status.
