The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, met with the leadership team of PakEco Marine Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to discuss key maritime infrastructure projects aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s blue economy. The meeting was facilitated by Barrister Tahawar Hussain Tarar and attended by Raja Taimur Rehman (Managing Director), Raja Hashim Rehman (Director Operations), and Selman Pataudi (International Director) of PakEco Marine Solutions.
The discussion centered on a series of collaborative initiatives between the public and private sectors to attract foreign direct investment, enhance technical capacity, and modernize critical maritime assets under the Ministry’s long-term vision.
PakEco Marine Solutions briefed the Minister on its plan to establish landmark Hong Kong Convention (HKC)-compliant Green Ship Recycling Facility at Gadani — a project designed to introduce sustainable ship dismantling operations that meet international standards of safety, environment, and labor welfare. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs, strengthen the domestic steel recycling industry, and restore Gadani’s role as a globally recognized ship recycling hub.
The delegation also presented a proposal for the revival and phased upgradation of existing Oil Pier facilities at Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The initiative aims to improve safety systems, operational efficiency, and throughput in the initial phase, with a view toward future capacity expansion for handling large vessels, including VLCC tankers.
Additionally, the company shared its proposal for the establishment of vocational and technical training institutes dedicated to maritime and ship building skill development. These centers will equip Pakistani workers with internationally recognized technical certifications, enabling both local industry enhancement and export of qualified manpower to international partners.
The Federal Minister appreciated PakEco Marine Solutions’ vision and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting sustainable maritime development. He welcomed private-sector participation in projects that align with national priorities and directed for continued coordination with relevant stakeholders to move forward on implementation.
