Islamabad is set to host the Lok Mela festival at Lok Virsa from November 7 to 16. Organized by the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa), the annual festival will feature artisans, folk musicians, and performers from across the country.
Cultural pavilions from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir will display regional crafts, performances, and traditional foods. An international pavilion will also return this year, featuring participants from 12 foreign countries, twice as many as last year.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khichi said the growing international participation reflects global interest in Pakistan’s culture.
The event will include folk music shows, storytelling sessions, and craft workshops, allowing visitors to experience local traditions firsthand. Food stalls will serve regional specialties from across Pakistan.
Lok Virsa officials said arrangements have been made for security and crowd management to ensure a family-friendly atmosphere.
Since its start in 1981, Lok Mela has highlighted Pakistan’s folk heritage and unity in diversity. The festival is expected to attract large crowds, including foreign tourists and culture enthusiasts.
