The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that most parts of the country will see below-normal rainfall and dry weather conditions this winter. Experts say that the season is likely to remain drier than usual, with limited rain and lower-than-average snowfall in the mountains.
While cooler temperatures are beginning to set in, meteorologists do not expect significant rain events this season. The department has warned that Punjab’s plains could face increased smog and worsening air pollution in the coming weeks.
According to Deputy Director of Forecasting Farooq Dar, the westerly winds that typically bring rain to the region are currently inactive. As a result, the weather is expected to remain mostly dry, and temperatures may be slightly higher than normal.
Farooq Dar cautioned that the prolonged dry spell could worsen air quality, particularly in Punjab’s plains, where the risk of smog will rise in November and December. Reduced visibility and a higher incidence of respiratory and eye-related illnesses are expected as a result.
