Pakistan Receives Hepatitis C Medicines from Egypt

Pakistan has received a major donation of Hepatitis C medicines from Egypt to support the Prime Minister’s Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C, aimed at combating the widespread liver disease across the country.

To mark the arrival of the shipment, the Ministry of Health organized a ceremony on Tuesday, attended by Yara Albdewy, Deputy Chief of Mission of Egypt, and Dr Dapeng Luo, World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s generous contribution, describing it as a symbol of enduring friendship between the two nations. He thanked the government and people of Egypt for their solidarity with Pakistan in its ongoing efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C.

The minister also acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the WHO for their vital support in coordinating and facilitating the shipment.

Commending Egypt’s remarkable global leadership in eradicating Hepatitis C, Kamal said Egypt serves as a model for effective public health interventions worldwide. He added that Pakistan aims to learn from Egypt’s successful strategies to achieve its own national elimination targets under the Prime Minister’s programme.

It is notable that Egypt once had one of the highest Hepatitis C prevalence rates in the world, but successfully brought the disease under control through large-scale public health initiatives.
