The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) announced on Wednesday that Pakistan has added modern security features to its redesigned passports to curb forgery and misuse.
The authority said the updated passports will now display the mother’s name alongside the father’s name on the holder’s data page.
In addition, the visa pages of the new booklets will feature printed images of historic landmarks from different provinces.
According to the DGIP, these changes follow the principles of “modernity and harmonisation.” However, officials clarified that the overall passport format remains unchanged except for the upgraded elements.
Moreover, printing of the new passport booklets has officially begun after receiving approval from the Ministry of Interior.
Earlier in July, DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi revealed that the department had launched AI-powered passport printing machines. These machines can produce up to 300 passports per hour.
Pakistan has acquired six such advanced printers, fully integrated with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) system, to prevent delays and backlog.
