DIG Traffic Karachi’s Official Car Gets E-Challan

The official vehicle of DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has been fined under Karachi’s newly introduced e-challan system.

Confirming the incident, DIG Shah said that the car was issued a challan near Garden area while being driven by his driver.

He stated that the Rs. 10,000 fine was imposed for not wearing a seat belt. “The challan was issued correctly, and I will make sure it is paid,” he said.

DIG Shah added that the vehicle is registered under the Sindh Police at the Central Police Office (CPO) address. He said that after the fine was issued, he strictly instructed his driver to always wear a seat belt while driving.

The e-challan system, recently launched in Karachi by the Traffic Police, uses cameras installed across the city to detect traffic violations. Fines are automatically issued to the vehicle owner’s registered address based on number plate data.

Officials say the system aims to promote road safety and discipline among drivers by ensuring equal accountability — even for law enforcement vehicles.
