How UAE Public Holidays Are Determined
UAE holidays are a mix of fixed Gregorian calendar dates and shifting Islamic (Hijri) dates:
- Fixed dates: New Year’s Day, UAE National Day
- Lunar-based dates: Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, Islamic New Year, Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday
Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 allows shifting some holidays (except Eids) to create long weekends. However, holidays overlapping weekends are not carried forward. Individual emirates may also announce extra local holidays for special events.
