PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Thursday approved the Gujranwala Mass Transit Project during a meeting held with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif. He gave the approval in his capacity as party president.
He said the people of Gujranwala had long deserved a modern transport system and emphasized that the project should have been delivered years ago. He praised the Punjab government’s development efforts and said the new initiatives would support economic activity and improve public mobility.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed the meeting on the project. He said the Gujranwala Mass Transit system would span more than 30 kilometers, running from Eminabad to Gakkhar, and would serve over 51,000 passengers each day once operational.
He also said the project aims to deliver a reliable, efficient, and modern travel option for residents.
The new system will include a fleet of 40 electric articulated buses to provide an environmentally friendly and comfortable service across the route. The project marks a major public service initiative for one of Punjab’s largest cities and will expand clean transport options in the region.
