The cost of the Karachi Yellow Line project has reportedly increased by 190 percent, with the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approving a revised cost of Rs178.59 billion.
Originally estimated at Rs61.43 billion in 2019, the project’s cost has nearly tripled over the past few years due to revisions and escalating expenses.
In addition to the Yellow Line project, the CDWP also approved development schemes worth Rs 10.55 billion. Furthermore, it recommended four major projects worth Rs256 billion, including the Karachi Yellow Line, for final approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The sharp rise in the project’s cost has drawn attention to delays and inflationary pressures affecting large-scale infrastructure developments in the country.
