The Punjab government has enacted a new law titled the Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025 (POIP) to safeguard the rights of property owners and curb illegal land occupation across the province.
The ordinance aims to ensure the swift removal of unlawful occupants from land and other immovable property while providing fast-track legal relief to rightful owners. Under the new law, strict penalties have been introduced for filing false or misleading applications.
The law allows property owners to seek immediate protection by submitting requests directly to the Deputy Commissioner. Special tribunals will handle cases promptly, enabling quick civil and criminal proceedings against illegal occupants.
To facilitate public access, the government has launched a dedicated online portal where citizens can register complaints.
Officials said the POIP system has been designed to protect lawful property ownership and enable decisive action against land grabbers. The initiative is expected to provide relief to citizens by strengthening legal and administrative measures against encroachments and illegal possession.
